Reggie Bush is taking time away from his career to spend more time with his family. The former NFL player recently told the press how he has connected with his wife and kids since announcing his retirement from football in 2017.

“I’ve been able to enjoy more time with our family and just being able to do things that I normally wouldn’t be able to be here for,” Reggie shared during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. “For 20-plus years, most of my time was devoted to a single sport,” Bush revealed. “Now I get an opportunity to be home, and to find a new passion and keep my focus on top of my family.”

The coronavirus pandemic has changed how many live. Reggie and Lilit Bush have taken the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns as an opportunity to homeschool their kids.

“We’ve been really focusing on this time with our family and trying to better ourselves,” Reggie told PEOPLE. “It’s definitely been a challenge for us to homeschool but together we feel like we’ve been learning in this process a lot about ourselves, and we’re making it work,” the celebrity father said.

Lilit agreed with her husband that homeschooling has been a challenge yet rewarding to everyone in the family. “Our patience had to develop a lot more than it was,” Mrs. Bush shared with PEOPLE during the family’s recent interview. “We have to learn how to be a lot more patient with each other and with the kids because being with them all day long can push you to another level, stress-wise,” Lilit revealed. “We just simply cannot allow that to translate to the kids.”

Lilit and Reggie Bush parent three kids – Briseis, Uriah, and Agyemang – in all. Briseis is the couple’s only daughter and oldest child.
