NFL fans have spotted an unbelievable optical illusion in Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes’ cracked helmet.
The two-time Super Bowl champion Mahomes broke his helmet during the Chiefs’ 26-7 playoff victory over the Miami Dolphins.
The Chiefs and Dolphins played at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday when the conditions experienced a cold temperature of four degrees.
Early in the third quarter, Mahomes experienced a wild equipment problem.
On a 2nd-and-7 play, the two-time MVP ran to his right for 13 yards and a first down.
However, Mahomes lowered his head and was hit by Dolphins safety DeShon Elliott’s head in the process.
The helmet-to-helmet collusion caused a chunk of the Chiefs quarterback’s helmet to break.
NFL fans spotted an optical illusion of Mahomes’ cracked helmet, as the crack appeared to look like a cut-out of the Grim Reaper.
The mythical character is typically a skeleton character and wears a dark cape and carries a scythe.
And fans noticed the illusion, with one writing, “That’s insanely cool.”
Mahomes’ wore the helmet for two more plays before officials made him replace it with a new one.
While the hit was impactful, the weather also likely played a factor as to why the star’s helmet cracked.
The contest was the fourth-coldest in NFL history.
Mahomes spoke to reporters after the game and revealed he had trouble putting on the new helmet due to the cold.
“We have to talk about where we store the backup. It was like, frozen,” Mahomes said, via AP.
“I tried to put it on and couldn’t get it on, but we were able to adjust it on the sideline and get it right.”
The 28-year-old threw for 262 yards and one touchdown in the game.
Kansas City will move on to play in next week’s divisional playoff round against either the Pittsburgh Steelers or Buffalo Bills.
