AMINA Smith has been announced as the new face of ESPN’s SportsCenter.
The popular anchor will begin her new role at the sports network on April 2.
Smith is moving from her current job covering the New England Patriots and the Celtics for NBC Sports Boston.
A former track athlete at the University of South Carolina, Smith began her broadcasting journey in college.
She worked for the school’s SGTV covering football and women’s basketball before a transfer to the University of Miami.
After graduation, she had a local role at 6 News in Lawrence, Kansas.
Smith has since gone on to become a national broadcaster for Fox, BTN, and NBC.
“Joining ESPN is truly a dream come true,” Smith told the ESPN press room.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to connect with fans blending my knowledge and passion for sports and entertainment to deliver engaging, fun, and thoughtful content.
“As a former athlete and being surrounded by sports my entire life, ESPN has always been in the picture and I’m ecstatic to finally call the network home.
“A place where I can continue to show up as my authentic self while connecting with viewers from all walks of life.”
Away from the studio, Smith is married to Kansas City Chiefs safety Deon Bush.
Bush proposed in Costa Rica in July 2018, per the New York Post.
The couple’s wedding was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, eventually tying the knot in February 2021.
Bush and Smith share a young son, with the former fourth-round pick now a two-time Super Bowl champion.
