Cowboys rookie Dak Prescott honored his deceased mother with special cleats during Thursday night’s game.
Prescott wore cleats that said “MOM” with a ribbon inside the “O” in memory of his mom, who died from colon cancer in 2013.
Prescott and other players are sporting the unique footwear as part of the NFL’s first-ever “My Cause My Cleats” initiative. Players worked with shoe manufacturers to create one of a kind cleats that promote a cause important to them.
Prescott told The Players Tribune that attending any kind of fundraising event for colon cancer or the American Cancer Society is important to him.
“Fundraisers help raise money for research and treatment and are very impactful. Research has already helped to lower the number of diagnoses each year, but it’s important we keep going and learn even more about how to fight and beat this disease,” Prescott said.
Prescott and the Cowboys beat the Vikings 17-15 to move to 11-1 on the season.
