Sports fans, predominantly men, appreciate not only the thrill of sports but also the presence of charismatic and knowledgeable women discussing the games.
A notable addition to this scene is Amina Smith, an Emmy award-winning television host, who has recently joined ESPN as an anchor for SportsCenter, causing quite a stir online.
Expressing her excitement about the new venture, Smith shared via ESPN Press Room, “Joining ESPN is truly a dream come true. I’m excited for the opportunity to connect with fans blending my knowledge and passion for sports and entertainment to deliver engaging, fun, and thoughtful content. As a former athlete and being surrounded by sports my entire life, ESPN has always been in the picture and I’m ecstatic to finally call the network home – a place where I can continue to show up as my authentic self while connecting with viewers from all walks of life.”
Previously, Smith served as an on-air and podcast host and contributor at NBC Sports Boston since 2021. However, her journey with the network is coming to an end, with her final day slated for March 20th, potentially coinciding with her last broadcast as the Celtics take on the Bucks at home that evening. Smith is currently married to Kansas City Chiefs safety Deon Bush.
Amina Smith’s sports journey began at the University of Miami, and she kickstarted her professional career at 6 News in Lawrence, Kansas. From there, she transitioned into various sports roles with notable networks such as Fox Sports, Big Ten Network, BET Networks, and Stadium Sports.
In 2022, Smith earned recognition with a New England Emmy for Outstanding Sports Programming – Live as the host of Patriots Pregame Live. With her extensive experience and accolades, her addition to ESPN is warmly welcomed.
