Garrett Wilson has detailed how Sexyy Red‘s “SkeeYee” became the New York Jets‘ anthem.
In a recent Complex interview, the athlete opened up about his time on HBO‘s Hard Knocks. The Jets wide receiver called the show a “seamless” experience.
“I feel like it was very seamless the way they did it and went about everything,” he began. “You know, you didn’t notice if they were micing you up they did it to where it was on your pads…They weren’t obstructing us or interviewing us at bad times, it was really seamless. I think they did a great job shooting us as well. I feel like they did a great job capturing our team and the personalities. I feel like they might get a bad rep, but I feel like it was really cool to have them around.”

During the HBO show, the Jets fell in love with Sexxy’s hit song, “SkeeYee.” Garrett admitted he wasn’t up on the song and, for a lot of the team, it was their first time hearing it. However, the track resonated with the team’s “vibe” and caught on.
“The guys just play the popular songs out at practice and I guess that made it onto the playlist one day. Either everyone’s like, ‘Change this!’ or everyone’s jamming and that was one where everyone was just jamming. That was the first time I heard it was at practice. I hadn’t really been hip on it. But that’s one of those songs that just brought the good vibes out of practice, it’s good vibes and easy to know the words. It stuck and hard knocks got to capture that. But…that was natural. That’s what I mean when I say it [Hard Knocks] was seamless—that fun stuff just happened.”
A shot of the NFL team turning up to Red’s track went viral in late August 2023. The team DJ is seen playing the track to the approval of the squad. Jets star cornerback Sauce Gardner declares the track as his joint as he goes around to various players putting them on. Head coach Robert Saleh is also heard discussing the song. “Oh, y’all don’t know nothing about this sh*t,” he said, smiling. Garrett also appears dancing with a towel and grooving around the field.
The young star also appeared alongside the Jets during the NFL‘s season opener against the Buffalo Bills. The Jets would win the game 22-16 in overtime. Since then, the Jets have lost their last three games and have fallen to fourth place in the AFC East.
