“Courageous Aussie Mom Faces Online Backlash Over Controversial Decision to Treat Baby’s Birthmark”

An Australian mother has been subjected to online criticism for her decision to opt for laser treatment to remove her baby’s facial birthmark, a move she defended as crucial for addressing the child’s underlying health concerns. Brooke Atkins, a 33-year-old stay-at-home mom from the Gold Coast, faced negative comments on social media but emphasized that the laser treatment was a necessary step due to her son Kingsley’s medical conditions.

Kingsley, born six months ago, presented a significant “port-wine” birthmark covering half of his face, later diagnosed as a port-wine stain associated with glaucoma and Sturge-Weber Syndrome. Understanding the progressive nature of port-wine stains and the potential risks involved, Brooke chose laser treatment to preserve Kingsley’s skin health and prevent further complications.

Despite encountering criticism and being labeled a “monster” online, Brooke clarified that the decision was made based on medical advice and aimed at ensuring the long-term well-being of her son.

The family is currently undergoing the laser treatment process, and despite the challenges, they remain steadfast in their commitment to providing the best possible future for Kingsley. Brooke underscored the importance of comprehending the health issues linked to such birthmarks and the difficult decisions parents must make.

Despite the negative comments, Brooke expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support from those who recognized the health considerations involved. The family is navigating a challenging journey with numerous hospital appointments, specialists, and diagnoses, but Kingsley continues to be a happy and affectionate child.
